Cytogenetic Analysis of Alburnus escherichii (Teleostei: Leuciscidae) in Turkey

In this study, cytogenetic properties of A. escherichii were investigated using standard Giemsa staining, C-banding, and Ag-NOR staining techniques. The karyotype Sakarya bleak, the diploid chromosome number was 2n = 50, consists six pairs metacentric, 12 submetacentric, seven acrocentric autosomes (NF=86). No morphologically distinguishable heteromorphic sex chromosomes detected in karyotype. While most had centromeric pericentromeric C-heterochromatin (some slightly) blocks, other autosomal C-negative. Also, short arm eleventh submetacentric pair entirely C-positive. nucleolar organizer regions localized medium-sized pairs. Active NORs associated with observed whole pair, their active homomorphic. banded karyotypes reported study for first time.
